Chasing Down The Latest NBA News
After their owner publicly took his team out of the Carmelo Anthony rumor mill just a month ago, the New Jersey Nets are once again talking to the Denver Nuggets about acquiring the all-star small forward, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
It isn’t likely that the Nets are going to up their offer at this point, so the fact that they have resurfaced in the Anthony saga after their owner said they were done thinking about the possibility of acquiring him means one of two things: either the Nuggets are trying to get the Knicks to believe that Anthony may not end up in New York (after a failed attempt to do just that with the Laker rumors) or Denver has lowered their asking price for Carmelo as the deadline nears and the possibility of them losing a superstar for nothing increases.
Anthony has handled this process well. The Nuggets haven’t played very well as a team – they are boom or bust every night as far as effort and focus are concerned – but Anthony is playing some of his best ball of the year. Over his last five games, Carmelo is averaging 30.6 points per game on 53% shooting. This includes a 38-point performance against the Milwaukee Bucks from this evening and a 42-point outing against the Mavericks last Thursday. And in case you forgot, Anthony also had a 50-point game against the Rockets a week ago.
We’ll see what ends up happening with this situation. Whether the Nuggets intend to trade him to the Nets or are using them as yet another decoy, with just eight days until the trade deadline, it’s good to know this whole story is about to come to an end.
