But The Games Is On

Meet The Staff

Mark Travis, Founder/Editor/Writer

Mark Travis is a freshman at Ohio University majoring in online journalism and pre-sports management. Travis started writing back in 2008, when Michael Crabtree and the Texas Tech Red Raiders inspired him to start his own website. Mark’s first site, But The Game Is On, got him his first media credential in the summer of 2008 when he covered the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Houston Astros Double-A affiliate. Travis gained media access to Team USA Basketball, NIKE and the NBA in the summer of 2009 and has interviewed the likes of Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant and many other NBA stars. In 2011, Travis partnered up his site with Big Lead Sports, the fifth largest sports property on the internet.

In December of 2011, Travis launched the But The Game Is On Sports Network, featuring websites dedicated to covering the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL as well as college basketball and football. Travis contributes to all sites across his network. In January of 2012, Mark became an NBA columnist for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. You can follow him on Twitter @Mark_Travis.

Jordan Akin, Featured Columnist

Jordan Akin grew up in the era of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, of Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith. He remembers these things, and how amazing they were at the time. So naturally he didn’t develop a hardcore sports addiction until the era of Lebron James and *gulp* Larry Hughes, or Tony Romo and *GASP!* Terrell Owens. He made up for lost time and experience with sports by reading the opinions and breakdowns of many people much smarter than him (usually during hours where more productive things could be done), and started a small blog that no one read. Except, apparently, Mark Travis, who for reasons not readily able to be comprehended offered him a position writing odd little opinion pieces for The Chasedown Block. Never one to turn down an opportunity to rant and rave, Jordan will happily spout his opinion until Mark finally sleeps one day, wakes up, and realizes the terrible mistake he’s made. Demarcus Robinson, Featured Columnist

Demarcus Robinson is graduate of Northern Illinois University where he majored in journalism. Demarcus currently freelances for newspapers that cover the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The past year he has hosted his own variety blogs while recently contributing to NBA focused blogs. He hopes you like his NBA writing as much as his reporter or other blog entries. He spends his time trying to become a Twitter all-star while enjoying sports, movies and music. You can follow Demarcus on Twitter @DOCisChief.
